Two Louis XVI Style Gilt-Metal Mounted Miniature Commodes 19th Century Comprising a mahogany example, with a rectangular hardstone top above a conforming case enclosing a frieze drawer above two full drawers, raised on toupie feet; and a parquetry inlaid walnut example, with a serpentine-shaped top above a conforming case enclosing three full drawers, raised on bracket feet. Height of larger 13 1/4 inches, width 16 3/4 inches, depth 9 5/8 inches. C
A. Commode with Hardstone Top: appears to be in good restored condition; restorations include repairs to both front corners of the hardstone top; typical nicks and chips to the hardstone rim edges; small areas of repair to the veneer; no apparent splitting to the sides of the case; repairs to all four of the toupie feet; worm holes are visible on the underside, including the base board, glue blocks and frame edges B. Commode with Serpentine Shape Top: appears to be in good condition; some areas of restoration to the veneer; both sides of the case show evidence of vertical splitting; the underside (base board) shows evidence of worm holes; the underside of the base board and the underside frame edges have been painted with brown paint
