first is a leather bound pocket 1877 Excelsior Diary with C.A. Arthur Columbia 85 Notes on front pastedown in ink, with 26 pages with manuscript pencil. Many with school subject headings in ink such as Rhetoric, Mathematics, Latin and most text deals with those subjects, but includes other cryptic notes and baseball scores; AND a dark leather billfold with embossed gold lettering on front C.A. Arthur with interior pockets in gray leather, 3" x 4" folded. Lot includes a manuscript letter sheet that reads President Arthur's book Hatfield bought his home where he was sworn in as President in the back Library at 123 Lexington Ave., New York City.. Since President Arthur died in 1886, this may be C.A. Arthur II, more consistent with a young scholar. Condition: Several pages torn from first book, else VG.
