The first kogo 17th century with some later Japanning, of rectangular shape and hinged cover, decorated in gold and black low and high-relief lacquer with two birds on rocks beside bamboo fences, the sides with landscape scenes, with later Louis XV gold mount, marked for Paris, 1750, maker's mark illegible, the second kogo late 18th – early 19th century decorated in low-relief lacquer and inlays of gold foil with iris flowers and leaves; the inro decorated in gold and black lacquer with a rural scene of farmers amongst rice paddies and thatched houses, 19th century 33⁄8 in. (8.5 cm.) wide (the kogo); 33⁄8 in. (8.6 cm.) wide (the kogo) and 31⁄4 in. (8.2 cm.) high (the inro)
