Two Japanese ivory okimono of bijin, Meiji period, the first of a kneeling lady holding a scroll by a table and box, engraved two character signature, 9.5cm., the second a standing bijin with a kneeling boy by her feet, later mounted with an ivory dice shaker, 15cm. Estimate £200-300 The first figure of a kneeling lady has some occasional fine age cracks to the ivory on her robes, the box and object by her left knee was a separate piece made in manufacture which has been re-stuck where the pegs have broke, otherwise generally good. The second group of a standing lady and a boy has some age cracks to the ivory all over and a section of the carving which sticks to out to the front left of the lady's robes has been broken and re-stuck, the signature plaque which was inset into the base is lacking, there is a basket of fruit to the front of the boy and there is some slight losses around the base of this, someone has then later added a pierced ivory container to the front of the group and pinned it in to the lady's robes at her shins.
