TWO FINE GERMAN FLINTLOCK GUNS with minor differences, the multi-stage sighted barrels with turned mouldings and octagonal breeches each struck with the dagger mark of Essen (Støckel 4917) and engraved with foliage, engraved tangs, signed border engraved rounded locks with foliage on the tails, figured walnut full stocks (fore-ends cracked and repaired) carved respectively at the barrel tangs with a leaf and tendrils, iron mounts including plain trigger-guards (rear finials missing), flat side-plates pierced and engraved with foliage terminating in monster-heads, thin butt-plates each with long tang above and below and engraved with scrollwork and foliage, one involving a male profile head, turned ramrod-pipes, and one original ramrod with turned iron tip (the other missing), by Paul Kaufman, Essen, circa 1690 44¾in. and 45in. barrels [E.333,334, S.7,13] (2)
