TWO CHINESE ARCHAIC POTTERY VESSELS. Neolithic or later. The first is a tall ovoid double-spouted ewer of ivory clay with a circular handle to the top, the second a jar with a tapered ovoid body rising to a wide cylindrical neck framed with two handles and painted in earth pigments with geometric patterns, 30cm H. (2) Provenance: from the collection of David Scrase (1949 – 2020). Renowned scholar and curator, David Scrase was Honorary Keeper of Italian Drawings, Honorary Marlay Group member, former Assistant Keeper, then Keeper, of Paintings, Drawings and Prints and Assistant Director (Collections) of the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. An internationally acclaimed authority on Italian art, particularly drawings, Scrase published extensively and on a variety of subjects.
