TWAIN, MARK (=SAMUEL CLEMENS) The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn . New York: Charles L. Webster, 1885. First edition, first issue with all BAL points present: frontispiece portrait marked "Heliotype Printing Company" with cloth clearly visible underneath the bust; copyright page dated 1884 (actually a second state, but only one copy of the first is known); p. 9 misprints "Huck Decided to Leave" instead of "Decides"; p. 13 misprinted "88" in place of "87"; p. 57 misprinted "with the was" instead of "saw"; p. 155 is misnumbered "15"; p. 283 is a cancel (again, only one uncancelled copy is known). 8 1/2 inches (21 1/2 cm). Publisher's decorative green cloth, housed in a custom cloth chemise and slipcase. 366 pp. Steel engravings throughout. Light wear to extremities, hinges loose with rear joints exposed, frontispiece separated, some very minor scattered foxing, overall an attractive copy. BAL 3415
