Engraved title and 18 mezzotint plates printed on china paper and mounted after Turner and Girtin. (Some light spotting.) Contemporary English calf gilt, edges gilt (hinges and extremeties rubbed). Provenance : Charles Douglas Halford (bookplate on pastedown); acquired from Marlborough Rare Books, 1975. "Turner's rendering of light on clouds and water puts these scenes among his finest prints, while Girtin's darker engravings have a gloomy majesty" (Ray). The Table of Contents calls for 18 plates, but Ray calls for 20. Ray England 12.
