Engraved frontispiece and 14 engraved double-page plates (4 folding) (one plate detached from guard, some occasional minor spotting, a few plates with small tears and a few minor tears). Contemporary mottled calf, covers gilt with double rule border, gilt coat of arms of the House of Savoy within central panel (worn, ends of spine chipped with some loss). A description of the festivities surrounding the marriage of CHARLES EMMANUEL III (1701-1773), Duke of Savoy and King of Sardinia, to ELIZABETH THéRèSE (1711-1741) of Lorraine in Turin on 21 April 1737. The decorations were designed by the Italian architects IGNATIUS MASSON, BERNARDO ANTONIO VITTONE GIOVANNI BATTISTA BORRA, G. BERNARDI, and IGNAZIO AGLIAUDO and include numerous illuminations, as well as a large fireworks display over an allegorical grotto richly decorated with statuary, the arms of the bride and groom, and an elaborate central fountain. A brief account of the display of the Turin's famous shroud for the King and his subjects on 4 May is also included, as is a plate illustrating the crowd gathered at the Royal Pavilion to view the relic.
