TURIN 1637 -- GIUGLARIS, Luigi. Funerale fatto nel duomo di Torino alla gloriosa memoria dell'invittissimo, e potentissimo Prencipe Vittorio Amedeo Duca di Savoia Princioe di Piemonte, Rè di Cipri, &c . Turin: Heirs of Giovanni Domenico Tarino, 1638.
TURIN 1637 -- GIUGLARIS, Luigi. Funerale fatto nel duomo di Torino alla gloriosa memoria dell'invittissimo, e potentissimo Prencipe Vittorio Amedeo Duca di Savoia Princioe di Piemonte, Rè di Cipri, &c . Turin: Heirs of Giovanni Domenico Tarino, 1638. 2 o (331 x 220 mm). Engraved frontispiece and three large folding plates by GIOVANELE BOETTO (holes along folds affecting image on final two plates). Original flexible paper boards, uncut (cloth folding case). The funeral held in the cathedral of Turin on 18 December 1637 upon the death of VITTORIO AMEDEO I (1587-1637), Duke of Savoy. His wife Christiana ordered the Jesuit Luigi Giuglaris to devise a program for the apparato . The architect chosen was CARLO CASTELMONTE; the sculptures were made by ISIDORO BIANCHI but the painters are unnamed. Christiana was accused of poisoning her husband, but Giugliaris insists that the autopsy ruled out this. Boetto's three plates illustrate the false façade with the mourners entering the cathedral, a view down the nave to the catafalque with torch-bearers perched around the drum of the dome and the intercolumniar decorative scheme. Vinet 597 (2 plates only).
