Rabbi Avraham David Wahrman, the "Buchach Gaon" (1770-1840, Encyclopedia L'Chassidut, Vol 1, pp. 68-72), a leading Torah sage and Chassidic figure and prominent posek in his times. At the time he was only nine years old, R. Meshulam Igra discussed Torah thoughts with him and declared that this boy will become a phenomenal posek, a wonder among all the sages of his generation. After his marriage, he became close to Chassidism and sought the leadership of the most eminent rebbes of his times: R. Levi Yitzchak of Berdychiv, R. Moshe Leib of Sasiv, R. Chaim of Chernivtsi and R. Zvi Hirsh of Nadvirna. At the age of 20, he was appointed Rabbi of the city of Yazlovets. Reputedly, R. Meir of Peremyshlyany passed through the city and sensed holiness emanating from the place and attributed this feeling to the merit of R. Wahrman. From 1814, he was appointed Rabbi of Buchach, succeeding his father-in-law and teacher R. Zvi Hirsh Kara Rabbi of Buchach, author of Neta Sha'ashu'im and became renowned as an illustrious Torah prodigy and tsaddik. He wrote many books which became basic books of halachic rulings. Among his books: Da'at Kedoshim on Yoreh De'ah, Ezer MiKodesh on Even HaEzer, Kesef Hakodshim on Choshen Mishpat, Birkat David, etc. His work Eshel Avraham on Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim was printed in the editions of the Shulchan Aruch and is cited thousands of times in the literature of the poskim [this book is usually called Eshel Avraham – Buchach, to differentiate from an earlier book by the same title]. 202 leaves. 33 cm. Bluish paper. Fair-poor condition. Stains. Heavy worming. Open tears. Partially detached binding, damaged.
