A well-written and valuable narrative. This the copy of Richard W. Meade, U.S.N. with his bookplate to front pastedown and his signature "Richard W. Meade, Jr." to blank leaf preceding frontispiece. Rear Admiral Meade (1837-1897) saw distinguished service as an officer during the Civil War and later as Commander of the steamer Saginaw along the Alaskan coast in 1869-71. Steady promotions led to his appointment as rear admiral in 1892. Lot Amendments Condition: Lacking a portion of the folding map, which is laid in loose; lacking 1 plate, else quite clean and unworn.
