Antoine-Henri, Baron Jomini (1779 – 1869) was a general in the French, and later in the Russian, service, and one of the most celebrated writers on the Napoleonic art of war. Jomini's ideas were a staple at military academies. The senior generals of the American Civil War were well versed in Jomini's theories. Each volume with the engraved armorial bookplate of Maréchal Jourdan. Jourdan (1762-1833) was a notable French army officer.
