SECOND, REVISED AND CORRECTED EDITION. SIGNED ON THE FRONT FLYLEAF 'J.R.R. TOLKIEN'. The Hobbit -- Tolkien's first work of fiction -- was originally published in 1937, and was followed by 3 further impressions which incorporated minor corrections. The present, second edition of 3,500 copies added further corrections and also revisions to the text, including a revised chapter 5 (cf. Hammond and Anderson for a full analysis of textual changes).
