Prince Luigi Amedeo de Savoia Duke of the Abruzzi Author: Filippi, Filippo de Place: Westminster Publisher: Archibald Constable Date: 1900 Description: xvi, 241 pp. With 33 gravure plates from photographs on mounted India paper, wtih glassine guards; 1 double-page lithographed plate of micrsocopic organisms; 4 folding panoramas; 2 folding color maps; numerous halftones from photographs mounted on the text pages. 11½x7¾, original light brown silk boards, paper spine label, ribbon ties, untrimmed page edges. First Edition in English, limited issue. Rare limited issue of Filippi's account of his conquest of the 18,000-foot peak, printed on fine laid paper slightly larger than the trade issue, with the gravure plates on mounted paper, and the halftone illustrations in the text mounted. Most of the photographic illustrations were by the great mountain photographer, Vittoria Sella. Lot Amendments Condition: Spine label rubbed with some chipping, ends crimped, one ribbon tie frayed; a little offset to endpapers, else very good or better, with custom-made folding cloth box.
