Cocchi studied in Florence and Pisa, where he received his degree in medicine. In 1736, he was made lecturer of Anatomy at the Studio Fiorentino. His medical work followed in the steps of Redi and Borelli. He insisted upon the importance of anatomy for the study of medicine and surgery. He was also an excellent naturalist: in 1734, with the help of Pier Antonio Micheli, he revived the Botanical Society of Florence. Not in Wellcome.
