Crafted by highly skilled artisans to the most exacting specifications, these wonderful pens achieve a design standard rivalled by few and exceeded by none. The set comprises a fountain pen, rollerball and ballpoint, each carved from a single bar of sterling silver. The pens are engine turned by hand to create a rippled guilloche pattern, based on the fine guilloche of 16th century clocks. Nine layers of translucent lacquer are applied by hand; the sterling parts not enameled are plated with ruthenium (a rare component of platinum ore, of which only 12 tonnes are mined annually). The captops bear the proud Armani insignia. These pens are marvels of artistry and engineering; with their sleek lines and luxurious handling, they are truly the writing instrument equivalent of fine luxury automobiles. Only 199 examples of each pen were made; most were sold separately, but a small subset were made available as a Special Edition. These exclusive sets were quickly sold out and have become quite scarce on the aftermarket. Records indicate that this is the sole Special Edition set to come to auction. Medium 18K gold nib.
