Evert Ysbrants Ides (1657–1708/9), a Dane also known as Adam Brand, traveller, negotiant, served Tsar Peter I between 1691 and 1695, when he was sent to Peking to pay homage to the Emperor. Cox notes that "This was no easy journey in those days." Among the engravings is a depiction of Tsangyang Gyatso, the sixth Dalai Lama (1683-1706, called the "Immortal God"), and a fold-out of the Great Wall of China. Cox I, p.330-31.
