The first with tapering blade of hollow triangular section, the steel hilt with oval shell-guard, lobed rear quillon, faceted knuckle-guard and grip, and globular pommel, all set, apart from the grip, with faceted studs (some missing, russet overall), in original black leather scabbard (broken above the chape); the second with tapering blade (some pitting, extreme tip missing) of flattened hexagonal section, brass hilt of characteristic form including shell-guard with moulded borders, faceted globular pommel, and wooden grip bound with twisted copper wire; the third with tapering blade (pitted) retaining traces of etched decoration on both sides of the forte, and later iron hilt; the fourth with slightly curved blade (pitted) fullered along the back on each side, and characteristic brass hilt (incomplete) including heart-shaped guard engraved 'M Cardigan' and numbered '1/12'; a 1796 pattern infantry officer's spadroon (blade pitted, folding guard missing, worn overall); a Continental version of the last, with fullered blade etched on both sides of the forte, and gilt-brass hilt with solid shell-guard, cast and chased foliate decoration, and wire-bound grip; a brass-hilted officer's sword, with double-edged blade with central fuller on both sides of the forte, brass hilt with boat-shell guard, and wire-bound grip; the last in relic condition (8) The first 78.5 cm. blade
