Boston: Thayer & Eldridge, 1860. 12mo, printed paper wraps, 128pp. Spotting and water stained, but internally, pages not toned other than edges. Victor, O.J. The Private and Public Life of Abraham Lincoln. New York: Beadle and Company, 1864. 16mo, orange printed and illustrated wraps, 98pp plus 2pp ads. On front: Beadle's Dime Biographical Library, No. 14. The Lincoln and Johnson Union Campaign Songster. Philadelphia: A. Winch, 1864. 16mo, printed paper wraps illustrated with jugate portraits of candidates, 54pp. Rear cover with list of other song books, including a Yankee Volunteer's Songster, Naval Songster, Songs for the Union, and numerous "comic" songsters. Ayer's American Almanac for the use of Farmers, Planters, Mechanics, Mariners, and all Families. 1864. Lowell (MA): Dr. J.C. Ayer & Co., [1863]. 12mo, printed wraps, unnumb. With some water stains, light toning, but overall better than expected condition. More advertising for Ayer's various patent medicines than almanac, the Ayer company was very successful, largely because of these "informational" printings. His "signature" medicine was Cherry Pectoral (cough syrup), first released in 1843. He later added Catharic Pills (1854), Sarsaparilla (1859), Hair Vigor (1864), and more. After J.C.'s death in 1873, the company continued under various family members until at least 1939, nearly a century after J.C. purchased his apothecary in 1841. Provenance: The Ed Steers Lincolniana & Civil War Collection
