[Thornton, Alfred]. The Adventures of a Post Captain: by a Naval Officer. With characteristic engravings by Mr. Williams, 1st edition, 2nd issue, London: J. Johnston [1817], 25 hand-coloured aquatint plates (including frontispiece and additional title), blank fore-margin of K8 repaired, armorial bookplate of Baron de Spon to upper pastedown, all edges gilt, late 19th century red half morocco, gilt decorated spine with green morocco title label, joints and extremities slightly rubbed, 8vo Abbey, Life 347; Tooley 485. The letterpress title of the 2nd issue is the same as that of the 1st issue but with a rule line above and below "by a Naval Officer," and the imprint on the reverse is changed to 'London: Printed by W. Lewis 21 Finch-Lane, Cornhill'. Originally issued in 12 parts at 2 shillings per part.
