Jackson gives a glowing recommendation of Major J.H. Harman, who was leaving the Quarter Master's Department and entering the line of the Army. He says the following about Harman: I embrace this opportunity of stating that during the period in which I was commanding officer at Harpers Ferry, he by enlarged and comprehensive views, zeal and energy, gave to his Department a degree of efficiency that would have been highly credible to an experienced officer. A fine example of a war-date Jackson letter. Originally mounted in a family album, the letter has been professionally removed and conserved.
