For instance, he created a series of works depicting the Kinselmeer, reminiscent of seventeenth-century seascapes. Eventually, Van Elk proved not to be a strict conceptual purist, but a curious artist who studied the visual traditions of European art. "When you are young, you want to explore your field. Later on, you realize that history repeats itself.
