De regimine iudaeorum. [Ulm: Johann Zainer, 1473]. Chancery 2 o (282 x 198 mm). Collation : 1 8 (1 blank, 2r De periculis , 5r Epistola de iudeis (= De regimine iudaeorum ), 8v blank.) 8 leaves. 32-33 lines. Gothic type 1 . :116G. 3-line initial spaces. Capital strokes on fos. 2r 3r and 4r, otherwise unrubricated. (Repairs to inner margin of last two leaves.) Modern vellum. Provenance : Countess Estelle Doheny (bookplate), sold, Christie's New York, 22 October 1987, lot 67 -- Alfred B. Perlman (bookplate) -- purchased from Perlman 25 June 1992. ONE OF THE EARLIEST BOOKS PRINTED IN ULM, from Zainer's first year of operation. Only two institutional copies in the United States (Columbia, Huntington). Printed on unwatermarked paper. Johann Zainer's first type is the same face, except for a few sorts, as the first type of his brother Günther in Augsburg. Zainer printed four editions of this pair of tracts from 1473 to circa 1475; they may have been commissioned by the Dominicans of Ulm. Either the present edition or the first reprint (Goff T-317) was included in Zainer's broadside advertisement of early 1474 (Einbl. 1561, Amelung 19, Abb. 21).
