Translated into English verse to the fyrst thirdpart of the tenth booke, by Thomas Phaër Esquire: and the residue finished, and now the second time newly setforth for the delite of such as are studious in poetrie: by Thomas Twyne, Doctor in Physicke Author: Vergilius Maro, Publius Place: London Publisher: William How for Abraham Veale Date: 1584 Description: [334] pp. pi4, A-V8, X4 (-X4, a blank). Woodcut headpieces & initials; woodcut border on title-page. (4to) 7x5¼, early calf, spine gilt, marbled endpapers. Very rare 16th century edition of Virgil's Aeneid in English. STC24802 Lot Amendments Condition: Some cover wear, joints cracked, spine ends chipped; title-page with portion torn off, affecting "es" in Bookes and about a third of the imprint, the remainder laid on backing leaf, a bit of fraying and loss to lower corners of prelims. with a few words affected, some staining within, small hole in D3, ¾" hole in K6, lower margin of S3 shaved affecting part of signature mark and catchword, some marginal worming to latter leaves, a small wormhole in the text of about 20 leaves, else very good.
