Title: The Whole Works of Homer; Prince of Poetts, in His Iliads, and Odysses Author: Homer Place: Oxford Publisher: Printed at the Shakespeare Head Press And Published...by Basil Blackwell Date: 1930-1931 Description: 5 volumes. Translated from the original Greek by George Chapman 48 full-page woodcut illustrations by John Farleigh; woodcut title border for "Achilles Shield," woodcut frontispiece portraits of Homer and woodcut title-page borders in the first and fifth volumes, woodcut dedication page. (4to) original half crushed red levant morocco over tan buckram boards, spine lettered in gilt, uncut edges. No. 110 of 450 copies. The Shakespeare Head Press was established by A. H. Bullen in Stratford-up-Avon in 1904. After Bullen died in 1927, the press was acquired by a partnership including Basil Blackwell, the Oxford bookseller. Bernard Newdigate was appointed as typographer and under his direction the press worked within the Morris tradition. Lot Amendments Condition: A bit of wear and discoloration to leather, foxing to cloth; internally fine, overall nearly so. Item number: 264812
