[28], 424, [4], 287, [10] pp. Translated into English by John Davies. Illustrated with 7 folding or double-page copper-engraved maps; 4 copper-engraved plates including the frontispiece. (Folio) 29x20 cm (11½x7¾"), three-quarter vellum with marbled boards, red morocco spine label, tooled and titled in gilt. Important and widely-read account of travels through Russia and Persia, and into India and the Far East, during the seventeenth century. Translation of Offt begehrte Beschreibung der newen orientalischen Reise [and] Morgenländische Reyse-Beschreibung (1647). The maps include the large folding plan of the Volga, plus the Baltic regions, Muscovy, Persia, Asia, China, etc. This copy is from the Bridgewater Library, with its bookplate on the front pastedown and crest in gilt on the front cover.
