Title: The Third Man and the Fallen Idol Author: Greene, Graham Place: London Publisher: William Heinemann Date: [1950] Description: Forewords by the author. Black cloth, spine lettered in silver, pictorial jacket. First Edition. Two novellas originally published earlier. According to the front flap of the dust jacket, this copy contains the original version of The Third Man, which had several cuts and changes made before submission to the International Authorities in Vienna, from whom permission to shoot the film version in Vienna had to be obtained. The classic 1949 Film-Noir version of The Third Man starred Joseph Cotten and Orson Welles and won an Academy Award for Best Cinematography in 1951 and the Grand Prize of the Festival at the Cannes Film Festival in 1949. The Fallen Idol was made into the 1948 film directed by Carol Reed, the same director for The Third Man. Lot Amendments Condition: Jacket lightly chipped at spine ends; a touch of shelf wear to volume; very good. Item number: 249390
