Illustrated from photographs. 21.5x13.5 cm (8½x5½"), blue cloth, spine lettered in gilt, facsimile jacket. First Edition. Account of the last major expedition of the "Heroic Age" of Antarctic exploration, the 1914-1917 attempt by Sir Ernest Shackleton to cross the Antarctic continent by land. Ernest Joyce, the author of the present account, was a participant in four Antarctic expeditions, and earned the Albert Medal for his heroic actions during the 1914-17 venture. Ex-libris with ink stamps and bookplate pocket on endpapers. Condition: Spine slightly faded, minor wear, adhesive residue on rear cover; foxing to edges of text block; very good.
