The Second Antarctic Relief Expedition, 1903-1904, and the British Antarctic Expedition, 1910-1913. A small collection of ten gelatin silver-print photographs, [1904-1913], 12 x 9cm. and smaller Provenance : Mr. Dewhurst, the maternal grandfather of the present owner (according to family history Dewhurst was given the photographs whilst working on the refit of Shackleton's Quest in 1921). Subjects include: 1. The Discovery and the Morning at the pack edge, photographed from aboard the Terra Nova , [February 1904], inscribed in pencil on verso 'The Discovery's position a few minutes after the last explosion...which finally freed the ship from the fast ice' (2 diagonal creases). 2. The Morning and Terra Nova at the pack edge with the Discovery held fast in the ice, photographed from Ross Island, [February 1904], inscribed with the names of the vessels in pencil on the verso (upper left corner torn away). 3. Various members of the expedition at the prow of the Terra Nova looking at an ice-flow in the middle distance, [1911-1913]. 4. The hut at Cape Evans, almost covered with snow, two members of the expedition standing in front of it [1911-1913]. 5. Two members of the expedition with two of the dogs, Cape Evans? [1911-1913]. 6.
