Title: The Royal Military Chronicle or British Officer's Monthly Register & Mentor Author: Place: London Publisher: J. Davis Date: 1811-1816 Description: 11 volumes. With engraved portraits, folding maps, plates of fortifications, etc. (8vo) 23x13 cm (9x5") half diced Russia leather and marbled boards, gilt spines. Scarce nearly complete run of this invaluable record. Includes complete run of the first series (November 1810-April 1814) and the first four volumes (of 6) of the New Series (May 1814-April 1816). Covers the war in the Peninsula and other campaigns, includes biographies, promotions, tactics, fortification, uniform details, correspondence, etc., plus long supplements. This set with the ownership name of Sir Charles Chichester in the first four volumes of the first series. Chichester joined the W. Yorkshire regiment in 1811 and later commanded the Auxiliary Legion in Spain in the action of may 14, 1837 and in the attack and capture of Irun on may 16-17. Lot Amendments Condition: Light wear and rubbing to bindings, some mild corner bumps; a few folding plates torn without loss along folds, some browning and offsetting, one folding map for January 1811 not bound in, but provided from another copy, overall a very solid and attractive set; very good.
