David Evans was born at Newton, Montgomeryshire, and enlisted in H.M’s 14th Light Dragoons on 7 April 1841, just before the regiment embarked for India. He was one of four men of his regiment to be killed in action at Chilianwala on 13 January 1849, viz Lieutenant A. J. Cureton, and Privates George Atkins, David Evans and George Tookey.
