Large map delineating the rebellious colonies from Montreal to Delaware Bay, with insets of the mouth of the Hudson River; Amboy; and the City of New York. The map was one of six large folding maps in The American Military Atlas published by Sayer & Bennett in 1776, dubbed the Holster Atlas because during the war it was carried by British officers in their holsters. This is the fifth and last state of the map, the second of two issues dated August 17th, 1776, with Jefferys' name as engraver deleted, and with the engraved note off Sandy Hook referring to "Govr. Pownall's Topographl. Desn." Schwartz & Ehrenberg p.190; Tooley, America, p.78, #44e. Most of the bold coloring of the map seems original, but there are evidently some modern additions, including the border. Lot Amendments Condition: Wear along right edge, a few other marginal chips and tears, bottom edge shaved affecting imprint, with repairs and extension, some additional creasing along the folds, else very good.
