The Preston-Morley Buckinghamshire Collection: Commemorative Medals Benjamin Disraeli Buried at Hughenden, 1881, medals (2), by Ottley, in bronze and white metal, bust three-quarters left, rt. hon. earl of beaconsfield around, rev. died april 19th 1881 born dec. 21st 1804, interred at hughenden church april 26th 1881, etc, 44mm (BHM 3094; E 1680; Friedenberg 56; Grant, BNJ XXIII, p.335) [2]. Bronze good very fine but trace of verdigris by earl, white metal slightly scuffed but very fine (£60-80) Footnote Provenance: *Bronze bt Spink September 1980. Benjamin Disraeli (1804-81), Sephardic Jew who became first Earl of Beaconsfield; elected MP for Maidstone, 1837; Conservative MP for Shrewsbury, 1841; Conservative MP for Buckinghamshire, 1847-76; Prime Minister briefly in 1868 and from 1874-80; created Earl of Beaconsfield by Queen Victoria after she assumed the title Empress of India in 1876
