Prang & others Date: 1879-80 Description: Four Volumes, Series I & II. Illustrated with a total of 192 chromolithographed plates. (4to) 26x18 cm (10¼x7¼"), Series II, Volume I in original brown half-morocco and gilt stamped brown cloth, spine lettered in gilt, all edges gilt. The 3 other volumes in full blue leather with gilt stamped design, raised bands on spine, gilt spine lettering, all edges gilt. First Editions. Complete set of this important work on American flora; the large majority of the plates depict flowers rather than ferns. Series I published by Louis Prang Series II published by the American Natural History Publications Co. (Vol. 1) and Charles Robson (Vol. 2). All the chromolithographs are by Prang's esteemed firm after drawings by Alois Lunzer. Some plates on pale green stock. Nissen 1331. Lot Amendments Condition: Wear to bindings, rubbing to extremities, some corners worn; plates with scattered mild offsetting to text or darkening to edges, plates generally bright; very good.
