A RARE LIMITED EDITION MACALLAN--60 YEAR-OLD ONE OF ONLY TWELVE BOTTLES PRODUCED Lying at Christie's Scotland, Glasgow The Macallan--60 year-old Distilled and bonded 1926, bottled 1986. Presented in an imposing, specially designed, brass and glass tantalus cabinet on wooden plynth, the inner compartment holding the top and base of the bottle in position. The bottle has a specially commissioned label signed by Valerio Adami the famous Italian artist and is numbered "12/12" (Twelve of twelve bottles) This 60-year-old malt is the pinnacle of the consistently outstanding malt whiskies produced by the Macallan Distillery in Speyside. This example, distilled two years after the centenary of the foundation of the distillery in 1824, is a great rarity in it's own right. The quite exceptional presentation makes it one of the most desirable and prestigous single Speyside malt whiskies to be found anywhere in the world today. The production of The Macallan is a true labor of love, the production process is aimed exclusively at quality. Unusually small copper stills, unique to Macallan and of which two are used for each wash still, are fired directly from beneath allowing for interaction of the copper. The natural reasources of Speyside are used when the water is drawn from the Ringhorn Burn and from bore holes sunk deep in the Morayshire countryside, into the distillery. The two very important factors that contribute to the quality of the spirit are firstly that 17 (the heart) of the run is retained, the remaining 83 (heads and tails) then being re-distilled. Secondly, The Macallan is the only malt whisky matured exclusively in sherry wood casks which are hand crafted in the bodegas of Jerez. After seasoning for three years with dry oloroso and fino sherries, they are shipped to Speyside for the long maturation process and contribute to the unique flavour of The Macallan 1 bottle per lot
