THE LOCK AND STOCK OF A GERMAN WHEEL-LOCK SPORTING RIFLE, the flat lock retaining traces of original blue, blued wheel-cover engraved with two birds (pan-cover release button missing), fruitwood full stock inlaid with engraved horn rosettes and circles, the butt with a horn panel engraved with a hare pursued by a hound, behind the tang with a small plaque with stockmaker's initials LW, and with a further panel on each side engraved with a Turk's head, the cheek-piece with horn roundel engraved with a unicorn, horn patch-box cover engraved with a stag, staghorn-inlaid smoke-escape below the lock, and horn-tipped ramrod (split, one ramrod-pipe missing); and the stock of a Silesian wheel-lock tschinke, inlaid in the Teschen manner with engraved horn panels, ball-flowers and dots within horn lines, inhabited on the butt by a stag, and on the cheek-piece with a lion enriched with engraved mother-of-pearl insets (some losses and damage), both mid-17th Century 43½in. and 48½in. long (2)
