(4to) 26.8x21 cm (10½x8¼"), period ‘hard grain’ dark green full morocco, spine gilt in composite double-rule bordered panels in-filled with stylized flower and paired curl tools, five flat raised bands single-rule gilt with decorative endings, boards double-rule gilt bordered with a large gilt design incorporating rules, paired curls, gouges, stylized flower, leaf, and bird tools surrounding an urn-based temple of the muses center-piece, board edges double-rule gilt, broad inner dentelles of florid decorative roll between inner and outer triple rules gilt, primrose moiré patterned doublures gilt bordered and with ‘hyacinth bud’ corner-pieces gilt, all edge gilt. Signed binding by Carss, Glasgow with ticket on verso. A sumptuous, and very skilled binding from a notable Glasgow bookbinder. The engravings are in “proof state” and mounted on individual sheets, interleaved throughout the book. The very detailed engravings depict the lakes all over Scotland.
