The letter is 7 lines long, and in it he asks for some sheet music No. 6, Legend of the Kadskills, signed Faithfully, H.B. Farnie. A very rare manuscript item from Henry Brougham Farnie (1836-1889), a native of Burntisland. Farnie was a journalist who was educated at St. Andrews, where he no doubt honed his skills at the game. He published the first edition of this book in 1857 under the pseudonym "A Keen Hand". It was the first book of golf instruction. D&J F2560; D&M 1142; Murdoch 415. Lot Amendments Condition: A bit of creasing at wrapper edges, a tiny chip to top corner of rear wrapper, tiny marks of soiling; very good copy of an important book; autograph letter is near fine.
