(8vo) 16.5x10.5 cm (6½x4¼"), modern full speckled calf, raised bands flanked by gilt rules, spine panels with large fleuron centerpiece, red morocco spine label lettered in gilt. First Edition. Ramesey was of Scottish origin and was educated at St. Andrews. He came to London in 1645 and was admitted to the Royal College of Physicians. This rather unusual courtesy book attempts to explain man's various emotions in both philosophical and medical terms. ESTC R21320; Wing R206. With endpapers from a 16th c. Greek edition of Plato's On the Laws. Condition: Corners slightly bumped, bookplate of Macclesfield Library on front free endpaper verso, matching blindstamp to first three leaves, frontispiece caption cropped, occasional foxing but generally quite clean; very good.
