I-III - [ continued as :] The British Bookmaker: A Journal for The Book Printer, The Book Illustrator, The Book Cover Designer, The Book Binder, Librarians and Lovers of Books generally . Vols. IV-VII. London: William Clowes & Sons, 1888-1894. 7 volumes, 8 o. Numerous plates (some color and gilt), text illustrations, samples of marbled papers, cloth binders specimen plates (on paper), advertisements, etc. Original near-uniform plum cloth gilt (minor wear, half-titles with signatures clipped on first two vols.). Provenance : Typographic Library and Museum of the American Type Founders Company (bookplates). A COMPLETE RUN of this rare and important journal devoted to the craft and history of binding. The first three volumes were edited by Joseph Zaehnsdorf. In 1891, when it became The British Bookmaker , the journal became more focussed on trade matters, providing an important contemporary survey of bookbinding matters of the day. (7)
