The Book of Genesis Illustrated by R. Crumb Signed Limited Edition with Signed Print Author: Crumb, Robert Place: New York Publisher: W.W. Norton Date: 2009 Description: Illustrated throughout in black and white by R. Crumb. Black cloth titled in gilt, slipcase with color illustrated label. Limited Edition: #119 of 250 copies, signed by Crumb and with a color print also numbered 119 of 250 and signed by Crumb. Excellent condition, as-new. Crumb stunned his fans in 2009 when he released the greatest sustained work of his career, a complete and literal book-length adaptation of the Book of Genesis. The book caused an immediate stir, climbing to the #1 spot on the New York Times list of graphic novels and Amazon's Christian books list. The book took Crumb four years to complete; while working on it he lived even more hermetically than usual, holing up in a shepherd's hut in the south of France, with his wife Aline fortifying him with baskets of food. Despite his penchant for the profane, Crumb dismissed his original notion of sending up his subject matter and chose to play it straight: "I fooled around in the sketchbooks with those ideas and I just, I didn't like how it was working out so I just decided to do a straight illustration job of it. It seemed to me that the original text was so strange in its own way that there was no need to do any sendup or satire of it. My trial efforts to do that seemed lame, it wasn't working out." -Crumb in conversation with Alex Wood, 2010. Consignments Accepted for PBA's Next Comic Book Auction.
