THE BEATLES - McCARTNEY, PAUL] LENNON, JOHN. In His Own Write . New York: Simon & Schuster 1964. Second printing, signed by McCartney on the front free endpaper, the autograph collected by the consignor at a May 1968 press conference featuring Lennon & McCartney. Original boards. Some wear to extremities; Together with a group of related photographs and press materials from the day the book was signed, including twelve 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 inch photographs of Lennon & McCartney at the press conference, two photographs of McCartney in a larger format, fourteen slides and a sleeve of negatives with images from the event, a Solters & Sabinson Publicity-Relations tip sheet on the event, the consignor's Beatles Limited authorization card signed on the verso by Beatles' press officer Derek Taylor, and a first American edition of Lennon's A Spaniard in the Works; Also included is the autograph of the Maharishi Mehesh Yogi and several Beatles concert tickets, including two unused tickets from Shea Stadium (23 August 1966); a stub from Shea Stadium (15 August 1965); and a stub from the Forest Hills Music Festival (29 August 1964). Signs of handling, good overall, accompanied by a letter of provenance from the consignor. As the letter accompanying this archive attests, in May 1968 Paul McCartney and John Lennon held a press conference at the Americana Hotel in New York to announce future projects at Apple Corps. As a young reporter with Ingenue Magazine, the consignor was given access to Lennon & McCartney and had this volume signed by the latter, Lennon being too swarmed by press and fans. One slide here shows McCartney accepting a bouquet of daisies, one of which is seen pinned to his lapel in the later images. An interesting small archive highlighting the writing duo at the height of their fame. C
