Overall fair to good This unusual group photograph of The Beatles was taken by Philip Gotlop at his studio at 22-24 Kensington Church Street, London in January 1963. It was the Beatles’ first London studio photo session - the shots, taken for publicity purposes were sent to newspapers and magazines. They were used to promote the release of 'Please Please Me' and throughout the frenetic media build-up which led to the single becoming the group’s first number one.
