The Annunciation to the Virgin in a gothic interior, on a bifolium from an illuminated Missal, in Latin, on parchment [Germany (probably Rhineland), c. 1500] Bifolium, with a large initial ‘C’ (opening “Conditor alme siderum …”) in gold, enclosing the Virgin kneeling and reading in a finely paneled gothic interior as an angel appears and gestures at her, all within a gold frame and red grounds, the outer edges of the frame on three sides with scrolling foliate red and blue penwork, single column, 16 lines in an angular gothic bookhand which appears to show influences of Burgundian letter bâtarde, red rubrics, initials in red or blue (the larger with baubles suspended in their bodies or with fine calligraphic foliate penwork and bull-rush like radiating strokes), small contemporary correction to text marked with red cross, some small holes, folds, losses at edges and discoloured areas, initial scuffed at left with losses to paint and gold, but overall fair and presentable, each leaf 355 by 255 mm.
