Wodehouse originally released the work in serial format in the United States in Collier Magazine from October 8-December 31, 1921 and in the UK in The Grand Magazine from April-July,1922. McIlvaine notes that this edition was published in October 1922 but post-dated on the title to 1923. McIlvaine A29a. Octavo. Four leaves of publisher’s ads at end (a few leaves lightly spotted). Original orange cloth, titles and illustration stamped on upper board and spine in brown, publisher’s device stamped on lower board and spine (extremities very lightly rubbed, head- and tailcap lightly bruised); original pictorial dust-jacket by Ealey (lightly marked, several creases and closed tears, one into text at bottom of upper panel, small chips without loss). Provenance: James H. Heineman (bibliographer of Wodehouse; bookplate) — Frits Menschaar (no evidence of provenance).
