Terrot. A fine 18K gold and enamel openface quarter repeating automaton watch Signed Philippe Terrot, No. 17035, circa 1780 With gilt-finished cylinder movement, chain fusée, pierced and engraved balance cock, quarter repeating on one polished steel hammer onto a bell, the small white enamel dial with Arabic numerals, surrounded by a painted polychrome painted scene depicting a reclining lady, a fish and three putti in a lake, all surmounted by an applied vari-colour gold scene depicting two flying putti and a flying bell, one putto striking the bell apparently in unison with the repeating, the second holding a basket of flowers, in circular case with finely blue and black champlevé enamel decorated bezel and rim, the reverse centred by an oval painted polychrome enamel scene depicting a lady and a putto, surrounded by a polychrome champlevé enamel floral decorated borders and trophies of music and love, pierced gilt metal outer case with glazed back, dial and movement signed 54 mm. diam.
