London: Thomas McLean, 1842. 2 o (375 x 325 mm) Lithographed title and dedication and 6 lithographed hand-colored plates. (Intermittent spotting.) 19th-century cloth gilt-lettered on upper cover, gilt edges. FIRST EDITION. Tayler entered the service of the East India Company in 1829, and according to DNB "his official career had been uneventful, though he made friends in high quarters by his skill as a portrait painter, and some enemies by a turn for caricature." His actions during the mutiny enforced his retirement in 1859. Abbey Travel 465; Colas 2858.
