TASSO, Torquato (1544-1595) - La Gerusalemme Liberata. Urbino: Girolamo Mainardi, 1735. A fine edition of Gerusalemme liberata, edited by Scipione Gentili and Giulio Gustavini. The work is embellished by the numerous engravings by Arnold Westerhout based on Tempesta's drawings. Folio (345 x 230mm). Half-title, title in red and black with engraved vignette, initials and elaborate engraved head piece at the beginning of the first canto, 20 engraved plates of which the one on D2 applied as usually (title with tears and restorations to the lower margin, restoration touching text and slightly affecting its legibility at D3, some other marginal restorations or tear sometimes touching the text without compromising legibility, small marginal wormtracks to final leaves, waterstaining, some staining and foxing). Contemporary vellum, gilt title and decoration on spine, speckled edges (later endpapers, staining, wear and losses). Provenance: Castello di Falconara - Barone Gabriele Chiaramonte Bordonaro (stamp on half-title).
