TASSO, Torquato (1544-1595) - Il Goffredo, ovvero Gerusalemme liberata. Venice: Antonio Groppo, 1760-61. A fine copy of this richly illustrated 18th-century edition of Tasso's work, to which the "Annotazioni sopra la Gierusalemme liberata" by Scipione Gentili (1563-1616) have been added at the end of the volumes. The engraver, Giacomo Leonardis (1723-1797), worked on the drawings by Bernardo Castello (1557-1629) for the opening plates of the cantos and on the drawings by Pietro Antonio Novelli (1729-1804) for the engraved vignettes. 2 volumes, folio (300 x 210mm). Half-titles, engraved frontispiece in the first volume, engraved vignettes on titles, first title printed in red and black, engraved portrait of the author, engraved headpieces, initials and illustrations, 20 engraved plates at the opening of the cantos (some soiling). Quarter marbled calf, gilt decorations and title on spine (chipping at the ends, wormtrack on one spine, decorations on spine faded). Provenance: Paolo Saccoman (bookplate on endpaper) - R.O.
